Volunteers sought for Dearne Valley heritage project

RSPB Old Moor is working with Chol theatre and arts to bring to the stage memories and history of the Dearne Valley nature reserves. The RSPB are looking for people with an interest in local history and skills in interviewing and storytelling to volunteer as part of the Flock of Stories heritage project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Sheffield vigil for Black Lives Matter

A demonstration in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement is being organised this Saturday in Sheffield by local activists. The vigil is being held in response to the murder by Minnesota police officers of George Floyd which has sparked protests across the USA and worldwide. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to organiser and activist Abdullah Okud.

Orgreave campaigners mark 35th anniversary

Campaigners marked the 35th anniversary of the Battle of Orgreave with a rally on Orgreave Lane at the site of the former coking plant. Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign are continuing to seek a public enquiry into the events of June 1984 when miners were assaulted and arrested by police on charges that were later dropped as allegations emerged of fabricated evidence and police brutality. Sheffield vigil remembers Grenfell victims

Community activists held a vigil outside Sheffield Town Hall to mark two years since the Grenfell tower tragedy in London and to remember the victims. Seventy two people lost their lives in the tower block after a fire got out of control in the building. A service of remembrance was also held in London and attended by friends and families of the victims. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Parents appeal for missing son

South Yorkshire Police have appealed for information to help find 23 year old Minod Monger, last seen at around 5.30pm on 10 June in the Ecclesfield area of Sheffield. His family are extremely worried about his welfare. He is described as being Asian with dark black hair and around 5ft 4in tall. He was last seen wearing a white jacket, grey joggers and black Crocs. Sheffield gears up for Migration Matters Festival

Migration Matters Festival is set to return to Sheffield on Friday with its biggest line up to date for this year’s Refugee Week. The annual festival, now into its fourth year, features local, national and international acts celebrating the positive impact of migration in the city and the UK. BBC slammed over TV licence fee changes for over 75s

The BBC has been criticised after its decision to scrap free TV licences in a move that will affect the majority of pensioners over the age 75. Following a public consultation, the BBC Board decided that from June 2020 only those households with someone who is both over 75 and in receipt of Pension Credit will be entitled to a free TV licence paid for by the broadcaster. Currently all households with people over 75 are entitled to a free TV licence. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!
