Video game museum welcomes gaming royalty

The National Video Game Museum rolled out the red carpet this week for Masayuki Uemura, the hardware research designer behind the classic Nintendo and super Nintendo consoles. In an exclusive appearance in Sheffield, Uemura talked about his career and role in development of the hugely influential gaming hardware. The National Video Game Museum moved to Sheffield in November 2018 reflecting the city’s growing importance in the gaming industry with the success of companies like Gremlin and Sumo Digital. Coronavirus patients receiving specialist treatment at Royal Hallamshire

Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital is providing specialist treatment at its infectious diseases unit for two of the coronavirus patients repatriated from a cruise ship in Japan. The individuals are in quarantine and pose no risk to the public, according to Greg Fell, director of public health for Sheffield. So far 13 people in the UK have tested positive for the disease which has symptoms similar to flu. The number is expected to increase. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Global arts festival comes to Sheffield

Arts and culture from around the world is set to be on show in the Winter Gardens and Barker’s Pool with a weekend of poetry, music, stage and more, brought to Sheffield by Good Chance Theatre. The FreeDome arts festival builds on the Theatre of Hope project created in the Sangatte refugee camp, Calais and which has gone on to tour the world. Scalp cooling treatment offered to young cancer patients

Young adults and teenagers being treated for cancer are to be offered free access to a pioneering scalp cooling treatment at Weston Park Hospital that can reduce hair loss during chemotherapy. Those aged between 13 and 24 will be able to access the treatment as a result of an initiative launched by the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust and Huddersfield-based health technology specialists Paxman. Parsons Cross charity appeals for help to find burglars

The Parsons Cross Forum is appealing for help to find the burglars who broke into their offices on Wednesday might and stole donations and destroyed furniture. The Forum provides dementia support, lunch clubs and collects for the local food bank among other activities. Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh spoke to project coordinator Louise Ashmore.

Sheffield to gain Yorkshire’s tallest building

City Council planners have approved proposals for a 38-storey tower building between Rockingham Street, Wellington Street and Trafalgar Street. The £100 million project, set to be Yorkshire’s tallest building was given the green light this week. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!
