Sharks captain Mike Tuck has agreed to sign a one year extension to play a thirteenth season with the Sheffield basketball team. The thirty eight year old from Toronto Canada joined the club in 2009 and has won four major trophies. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!
Environmental campaigners have launched a petition to save parts of Owlerthorpe fields to provide a wildlife corridor. Unions and bosses at Sheffield Forgemasters have welcome the deal to nationalise the 215 year old steel firm. The Ministry of Defence is to acquire the company for £2.6 million with a commitment to invest up to £400m in modernisation. Over 40,000 revellers a day attended the sold out three day Tramlines Festival at Hillsborough Park with no mask or social distancing requirements. Speaking to Sheffield Live! Timm Cleasby, operational manger for Tramlines said: “It’s been incredible. Across the city we have had an amazing reaction.” The return of the city’s biggest music festival has been a landmark for the UK live events industry being among the first to join the government’s pilot Events Research Programme to test the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions. Stand Up To Racism Sheffield gathered outside Umix centre and other city locations to take to the knee at the weekend in support of England footballers. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukaya Saka suffered racial abused after England’s defeat in the Euro 2020 final. A new democracy campaign calling for decentralisation of powers is to have its North of England launch in Sheffield. Cross-party campaign organisation Unlock Democracy is joining with Sheffield for Democracy to host the launch event. Protestors gathered outside UK Border Agency offices at Vulcan House to stop the planned deportation of over 150 Zimbabweans. According to the protesters Zimbabwe is not safe for asylum seekers especially those who have spoken out against the regime. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!
