South Yorkshire Police have appealed for information to help find 23 year old Minod Monger, last seen at around 5.30pm on 10 June in the Ecclesfield area of Sheffield. His family are extremely worried about his welfare. He is described as being Asian with dark black hair and around 5ft 4in tall. He was last seen wearing a white jacket, grey joggers and black Crocs. South Yorkshire Police are set to share with other police forces across the country an additional £100m of government funding to help deal with the surge in knife crime. The cash is to be used for police overtime and to fund new ‘Violent Crime Reduction Units’. South Yorkshire Police have been running a campaign this week to raise awareness about knife crime and to reduce the numbe of weapons on the streets. A new Sheffield-based charity aiming to get vulnerable young people into work is set to launch in February after a pilot scheme supported by local businesses and volunteers. Grow UK aims to nurture skills to support vulnerable young adults to succeed in the workplace through a programme of coaching, one-to-one support and practical work experience. Broomhill Library have received a grant from the Big Lottery for improvements to the Victorian building and to restore its long-abandoned Percy Cain Heritage Garden. The building on Taptonville Road was privately owned before being converted to a library in 1957. Since 2014 it has been run by volunteers who are hoping it can be developed as a community hub. The opening event for Nether Edge Festival 2018 was held at the Common Ground Community Centre with music, dance, face-painting, arts and crafts activities. The Age Better in Sheffield campaign, led by South Yorkshire Housing Association, is seeking to reduce isolation and loneliness among over 50s with a toolkit going out initially to 7,000 households in the Firth Park area. The kits are designed to encourage people to connect with one another, especially those who may feel isolated, and include information about activities and facilities as well as advice. Thousand of people flocked to Norfolk Heritage Park for the 16th annual Sheffield Fayre. The bank holiday crowds were not disappointed as the sun came out for the free event with attractions ranging from fairground rides and food to a blooming horticultural show, crafts, games and market stalls. Fine weather brought huge crowds to the annual Stannington Carnival, a community-led celebration which has been a summer fixture for over 20 years. With music including Stannington Mixed Choir, Stannington Brass Band and the Old Friends Folk Bank, the traditional village carnival provided a diversity of family entertainment from the Scrufts Fun Dog Show to street dance performance, archery and face painting. The Peace in the Park festival returned to Sheffield for 2017 with the message of reclaiming peace in the world and the power of community action.
