The family of a man who sadly lost his life to Covid-19 has launched a £100,000 legacy appeal in his memory, one year on from his death. Raj Aggarwal owned the Hackenthorpe branch of Spar, along with other shops across the region and was a well known figure who worked tirelessly to provide food and drink supplies to frontline NHS Workers at the start of the pandemic. His wife Sunita Aggarwal has decided to launch a campaign to raise funds towards the Secret Garden project for staff and patients at the Northern General Hospital for staff and patients. A rally in Sheffield city centre was organised by the local branch of the International Workers Union (IWGB) in support of the first ever national strike by Deliveroo drivers demanding better pay and conditions. A recent investigation found that some drivers received as little as two pounds an hour for delivering food on the company’s behalf. The licence to operate a new digital audio broadcasting (DAB) service for Sheffield and Rotherham has been awarded to a partnership of community media organisations including Sheffield Live. Shefcast Digital promises to bring around 25 new local, community and specialist radio services to digital radio audience. Hundreds of demonstrators took part in a further protest at the weekend to oppose the Policing, Sentencing and Courts Bill which critics say gives police excessive powers to crack down on peaceful protest. Sheffield based charity, Snowdrop, which provides long-term support to empower survivors of human trafficking is set to expand its services.
