Hundreds of people have been enjoying the August bank holiday weekend at Sheffield’s Oktoberfest on Devonshire Green. Boxing fans predict Mayweather v McGregor fight

In one of the most highly anticipated boxing matches of the year Floyd Mayweather and Conor Mcgregor will be stepping into the ring in the early hours of Sunday morning. Mayweather, 40, came out of retirement for the multi-million dollar fight and is one of the best boxers of his generation. Public underestimate scale of youth homelessness

A new report by the End Youth Homelessness Campaign suggests public opinion greatly underestimates the scale of youth homelessness in the UK. The findings show that most people believe there are less than 50,000 homeless young people in the UK whereas studies indicate more than 83,000. The study also revealed commonly held misconceptions, with nearly half of people citing drug or alcohol addiction as among the most common reasons for homelessness. Special Olympics GB chiefs herald return to Sheffield

The return of Special Olympics GB to Sheffield is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the games, according to president Lawrie McMenemy and chair Murton Mann. McMenemy and Mann spoke to Sheffield Live! before the opening ceremony. The GB National Games are held once every four years and last took place in Sheffield in 1993. Torch arrives for Special Olympics 2017

The Special Olympics 2017 torch has arrived in Sheffield to accompany thousands of athletes and their supporters. The GB National Games are for athletes with learning disabilities and cover a wide range of sports including tennis, swimming and bowling. Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium will host 20,000 people for the opening ceremony, with ex-Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley headlining the event. Sheffield gears up for Special Olympics 2017

Thousands of athletes from around the country have arrived in Sheffield for the start of this year’s Special Olympics GB National Games. The country’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with learning disabilities takes place over four days in venues across the city including English Institute of Sports, Ponds Forge and the Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium, The opening ceremony at Bramall Lane includes celebrity guests and local talent including Under the Stars, Team Power Stilts, Aim To Dance, Kansaze African Dancers, Chinese Lions Dance, Team Katalyst Dance & Gymnasts and the ParaCheer Cheerleaders. Council condemns government plan on vehicle pollution

Councillor Jack Scott, cabinet member for transport and sustainability, said the plan to ban diesel and petrol vehicles by 2040 is “woefully inadequate”. Archibald and Pidcock take maiden titles in cycling grand prix

Sheffield’s centre was closed to cars and buses as the HSBC UK National Circuit Championships cycling event took place with Katie Archibald and Tom Pidock both first time winners. The cycling grand prix event, held in Sheffield for the sixth year, is one of the highlights of the elite road racing calendar with some of the country’s top professional riders going head-to-head for the prestigious red, white and blue national champions’ jerseys. Seventeen year old Pidcock continued his remarkable rise to prominence by winning the mens’ race while Archibald took the women’s title. Simon Thake reports for Sheffield Live!
