The parents of Sheffield teenager, Noah Lomax, have welcomed the coroner’s recommendations following an investigation into circumstances surrounding their son’s death. 15 year old, Noah Lomax, who had autism and a psychiatric history, took his own life in August 2018 after Sheffield’s Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service rejected a referral by his GP. A portrait exhibition to raise awareness about the rise of homelessness in the UK and the plight of rough sleepers on the streets has been launched at Dina arts venue on Cambridge Street. Sion Thomas has been documenting and photographing homeless people to bring to the public’s attention the struggles of living on the streets and to raise funds for two local charities, the Archer Project and S2 Food Bank. Sheffield Council has been awarded £4m funding from the government for the costs of re-cladding Hanover Tower which failed a fire safety test following the Grenfell Tower tragedy two years ago. The council appealed to central government to fund the work so that the costs wouldn’t fall on local residents. A delegation from South Korea have been visiting Sheffield to boost ties with Suwon city and to exchange ideas on urban landscaping and economic development. The visit comes as Phase 2 of Sheffield’s Grey to Green project gets under way to link Castlegate to the under-used Victoria Quays area and to transform the former inner ring road with sustainable drainage, floral meadows, segregated cycle lanes and public art. South Yorkshire Police have confirmed two boys, aged 13 and 14, have died and four other children injured after an incident in Shiregreen on Friday. A 37 year old man and a 34 year old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder after reports of concerns for safety at a property in Gregg House Road. Sheffield amateur football team Mount Pleasant Park FC staged a peaceful demonstration and football match outside Vulcan House, the Home Office immigration centre in Sheffield. The team were joined by supporters, campaigners and those affected by detention and deportation threats. The action was organised in support of These Walls Must Fall’campaign against immigration detention. Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh spoke to Bevan Richardson, of Mount Pleasant Park FC.
