Cancer charity’s Sheffield Race For Life still open for entries

People across Sheffield are being encouraged to sign up for Cancer Research UK’s Sheffield Race for Life event. The charity’s much loved 3K run is to return to Graves Park on Saturday 11 June following the end of Covid restrictions. Money raised from the event will fund world-class research to help beat 200 types of cancer, including bowel cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, testicular cancer, brain cancer, children’s cancers and leukaemia. Euro 2022 roadshow comes to Sheffield

The Women’s Euro 2022 Roadshow brought hundreds of families and fans to a showcase in the Peace Gardens of the best of football, fitness and music. Sheffield is among the host cities for the Women’s Euro 2022 football tournament which is set to kick off in July. Organisers are aiming to inspire more communities, particularly young people and families, to get involved in the biggest European women’s sport event in history. Busk Aid returns to Sheffield city centre

A group of musicians will perform live on Sheffield streets on Saturday as part of Busk Aid where all donations go towards humanitarian aid around the world. It’s the first time the team will perform live since lockdown when the yearly event had to go virtual. Rugby trophies on display in Sheffield

With 200 days to go until the opening game of Rugby League World Cup, a 48 hour tour put the trophies on show in Sheffield and other host cities and towns. Many turned out for the event at Sheffield Peace Gardens where the men’s, women’s and wheelchair rugby trophies were on display. Tramlines call for new talent

Sheffield school celebrates womens football ahead of Euros 2022

In celebration of schools’ National Football Week, children at Ballifield Primary School in Handsworth have been taking part in football related activities. Last week the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 schools programme was launched, aiming to inspire and unite schools and pupils to get involved with the tournament and with a push to get more women and girls involved. New quit smoking campaign launched

Smokefree Sheffield has launched a new campaign that aims to empower smokers to know they are “Strong enough to quit”. Men sought for mental health research

Grounded Research, the research team at Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humberside NHS Trust are running a new study working with and supporting men 18 and over. The Happy Healthy Strong project team are inviting men in Sheffield and the surrounding region who are currently experiencing or struggling with their mental health to get in touch to take part starting January next year. New Covid-19 wave expected as Omicron variant spreads

Sheffield health boss, Greg Fell, told Sheffield Live! the Omicron variant is likely to spread rapidly over the next few weeks. With cases of the new variant rising, the government has introduced new restrictions including face masks in most public indoor venues other than hospitality and people being asked to work from home where possible. The new measures could be in place for at least six weeks. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Night venues face hit under Covid Plan B

Under the new Covid-19 rules anyone visiting indoor unseated nightclub venues with over five hundred people will have to show they are either vaccinated or provide a lateral flow test.
