Sheffield’s Bryony Page wins gold in World Trampoline Championships

Sheffield’s Bryony Page has added her name to the history books once again by becoming the first British female trampoline gymnast to win a World Championships gold medal since Sue Shotton in 1984. Thirty year old Page won the individual gold at the Trampolining Gymnastics World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. The medal adds to her team gold from 2013 and silver and bronze Olympic medals from Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Hundreds join march with midwives vigil

Hundreds of people gathered on Devonshire Green at the weekend as part of March with Midwives Day, a national day to highlight the crisis in maternity care. Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh spoke to midwife Radha Wilson and Cat Ross, chief executive of family support charity Baby Basics.

Sheffield cricket coach urge caution on racism row

Shahid Ali, coach for Allama Iqbal Cricket Club, told Sheffield Live! he is not surprised with the allegations of racism at Yorkshire Cricket Club but urges people to be cautious as investigations continue. His comment came as over 35 people have contacted Yorkshire Cricket Club’s whistle-blowing hotline since it was launched just a week ago. Sheffield travellers react to scrapping of HS2

Sheffield rail travellers spoke to Sheffield Live! following the government decision to axe the eastern leg of HS2. The plan to connect leeds and Manchester to the the HS2 network are to be replaced with the Integrated Rail Plan (IRP) which promises faster train journeys between the East and West Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West, with £96bn expected to be invested into the upgraded rail network. Sheffield students celebrate graduations

Live and in person graduation ceremonies have been taking place at Sheffield two universities for the first time since the Covid pandemic struck 18 months ago. Graduates have been permitted to bring friends and family members as well as to meet without social distancing. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Thousands join climate rally

Over two thousand demonstrators marched through Sheffield city centre at the weekend to demand more action on the climate emergency. Pop-up market celebrates Black history and culture

A pop-up market, set up to celebrate Black History Month, has gained plaudits from market traders and their customers. The week long market in Fargate which came to an end at the weekend aimed to celebrate the city’s diversity, embrace change and help build a stronger community. Sheffield Sudanese activist protests military coup

Dozens of Sudanese residents of Sheffield gathered outside the City Hall at the weekend to protest the military coup which has ended the country’s transitional civilian goverment. The protest was organised in solidarity with nationwide protests in Sudan and similar gatherings in other parts of the world. Samah and Afag, the protest organisers, spoke to Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh.

Chilean activists mark 48th anniversary of military coup

Sheffield Chilean Solidarity activists and friends gathered outside Sheffield Town Hall at the weekend to remember the atrocities that took place after the 1973 Chilean military coup. The US-backed coup led by General Pinochet against leftist Chilean President Salvador Allende left over 3000 Chileans killed or disappeared and many more in exile.
