Sheffield Council warning to tree campaigners

Sheffield council have sent letters to fourteen people, including Nether Edge and Sharrow councillor Alison Teal, threatening a further injunction to prevent tree felling protests. The campaigners have been asked to give a written undertaking not to engage in tree protests in order to avoid the Council taking legal action. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Street campaign highlights air pollution in Sheffield

School students joined a demonstration in Firth Park to highlight the dangers of air pollution following a report that puts Sheffield among cities that exceed the legal limits. The World Health Organisation has identified 30 areas in the UK where fine-particle air pollution is in excess of ten micrograms per cubic metre. Hanover resident speaks of relief at cladding removal

Abdi Jama, a resident of the Hanover Tower in Broomhill, has spoken of his relief of the removal of the tower’s cladding following the Grenfell tragedy. The Hanover Tower is the only one of 24 Sheffield Council-owned tower blocks that failed safety tests carried out in the aftermath of the Grenfell fire in which 72 people died. Within two weeks of the disaster, works began to remove the Hanover Tower cladding. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Grenfell memorial held at Sheffield Town Hall

A memorial gathering has been held outside Sheffield Town Hall to remember the 72 who died as a result of the Grenfell fire in London one year ago. Earlier councillor Jim Steinke, cabinet member for housing, and Nether Edge and Sharrow councillor Michelle Cook, spoke to Sheffield Live! about local authority action to improve fire safety in Sheffield’s tower blocks. Buskers join campaign to support unpaid carers

Sheffield is celebrating national Carers Week with a series of events, exhibitions and a team of buskers raising awareness and money for Sheffield Carers Centre. An estimated 60,000 unpaid carers look after people who are disabled, ill, elderly or who have other support needs. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Junior Disability Snooker prepares for launch

The National Junior Disability Snooker Championships are set to launch in Sheffield at the weekend, with the competition entering its fifth year. Staged by the Stephen Harrison Snooker Academy the tournament has reached such high demand that applicants are being turned away and the organisers are fundraising to expand. Ambulance service launches life saving app

Yorkshire Ambulance Service have launched a ‘save a life app’ for mobile phone which shows where the nearest external defibrillator can be found from over a thousand external across the country. The app also offers guidance on how to respond in the event of someone suffering a cardiac arrest.
