Refugee agencies and Sheffield MP’s have called for an urgent and independent investigation into the safety of Home Office accommodation arrangements for refugees following the death in Sheffield of a five year old Afghan boy. Mohammed Munib Majeedi died after falling on Wednesday afternoon from a ninth floor window of the Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel on Blonk Street. Human rights activist, Shahida Siddique, said the British government and Western allies must to do more to save lives in Afghanistan. Siddique, who heads up the Faithstar charity, said Afghans who worked for British forces must be supported to come to Britain as their lives will be at risk. Baillor Jalloh reports.

Children across the UK have transformed thousands of plastic bottle tops into stunning art murals, as part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about plastic waste. Fifty five schools from across Yorkshire took part in the recycling campaign including Thurcroft Infants School in Rotherham which has been named among the top ten finalists in the competition for its fish sculpture created from plastic bottle tops, recycled chicken wire, bubble wrap and garden cones. New homes have been built on derelict land to help people in housing need in Rotherham and to provide a route onto the property ladder. The new development at Broom Valley has 44 homes with some to be rented and others available to be purchased through a shared ownership scheme with Rotherham Council. A new campaign has been launched by the Safer Roads Partnership to address a growing problem of driving under the influence of drugs. The #don’tdoit campaign is to run across social media sites targeting young men with an informational video.
