Sheffield healthcare firm awards pay rise to carers

Sheffield care provider, Silver Healthcare, has rewarded its employees with a pay rise for their work looking after some of the most vulnerable people in the city during the coronavirus crisis. Managing director Roy Young, whose company employs over 60 staff in Sheffield care homes, has pledged to pay carers an extra £1.79 an hour, amounting to a 21.8% pay rise. Covid-19 death of long-serving councillor

Tributes have poured in for councillor Pat Midgley, a former Lord Mayor of Sheffield who served on Sheffield Council for 33 years and has died following a diagnosis of Covid-19. The 82 year old was admitted to Northern General Hospital last week and sadly died on Sunday afternoon. Refugee charity moves to phone and online support

City of Sanctuary Sheffield have closed their drop-in centre but are maintaining support services by phone and online. The charity is coordinating aid to some of the most vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers to stay safe during the coronavirus crisis. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Moor Market closes to the public

The Moor Market has shut its doors to the public until further notice to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The market was one of few businesses that had remained opened since the government ordered people to stay home and practice social distancing. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Helpline launched for vulnerable residents

Sheffield Council has launched a community response helpline to support those most vulnerable to the spread of the coronavirus. The local authority says people who need more information or assistance can now seek help by phoning 0114 2734567. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Ranmoor care workers move in with vulnerable residents

A group of care workers in Sheffield have left their families and moved into a care home for residents with dementia to help protect them from the coronavirus. At Bridgedale House in Ranmoor, nine staff members have volunteered and moved into the care home full-time, reducing the risk of them infecting the vulnerable residents. Sheffield Live spoke to Lynsey Wright, deputy manager at Bridgedale House.

Taxi trade slows as stay at home guidance takes effect

Hundreds of taxi drivers in Sheffield are currently out of work due to the coronavirus pandemic with many concerned as to what support is available. Government is due to announce a package of measures to help self employed workers who are facing a reduction in work.
