Hundreds joined a rally to mark the 34th anniversary of the Battle of Orgreave as campaigners continue to make the case for a public enquiry. In October 2016 Home Secretary Amber Rudd announced there would be no public enquiry but campaigners, including Brightside and Hillsborough MP, Gill Furniss, are calling on the Government and new Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, to think again. Thousand of Sheffield Muslims attended the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer gathering at Tesco car park on Saville Street. The Eid celebration marks the end of Ramadan, in which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and engage in support for charitable causes.
Hundreds attended the funeral of boxing legend Brendan Ingle at Sheffield Cathedral. Ingle Brendan died in May, aged 77 at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, from a brain hemorrhage. A memorial gathering has been held outside Sheffield Town Hall to remember the 72 who died as a result of the Grenfell fire in London one year ago. A power cut in Sheffield city centre left commuters delayed and hundreds of businesses without electricity. The incident happened at around 11:30am on Tuesday and followed an underground explosion on Charles Street. Businesses affected were without power for nearly two hours.
