Funding bid rejected for Sheffield social housing

Sheffield Council has been told it will not be eligible to borrow additional funding to invest in social housing after having its application to a government scheme rejected. Councillor Jim Steinke, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said the rejection is based on old data and the Council is seeking to challenge the assessment. Sheffield South East MP, Clive Betts, told Sheffield Live! the government has got its priorities wrong. Azz Mohammed reports.

Sheffield to Monte Carlo road rally art revealed

The Bangers and Cash fundraising road rally to support youth housing charity Roundabout has put on display in the Winter Gardens the work of local artists who have painted the bonnets of the rally cars. Local businesses have each bought an ‘old banger’ for less than £650. The four day rally to Monte Carlo is scheduled to take place over four days in September. Countdown begins on tense Pakistan elections

As polls closed on the Pakistan Elections 2018 many from Sheffield’s Pakistani community gathered at the Pakistan Muslim Centre in Woodburn Road to watch the results come in. Opinion polls suggest a tight race between the ex-cricket star Imran Khan’s party and that of the jailed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Urban sketching puts city in perspective

Tram strike leaders deny claims of targeting festival

Unite the Union have denied claims by transport bosses that industrial action on the Supertram network is deliberately targeting Tramlines festival goers. Strike action over the past two weeks has caused disruption on Sheffield’s Supertram network with around 200 drivers and conductors taking part in a pay dispute that is yet to be resolved. Tramlines fringe set to rock the city

A packed music programme of fringe events is planned to run in parallel with this year’s Tramlines Festival at Hillsborough Park. A music stage on Devonshire Green will be among the highlights as bars and clubs across the city programme a weekend of live music.
