Sheffield Council has been told it will not be eligible to borrow additional funding to invest in social housing after having its application to a government scheme rejected. Councillor Jim Steinke, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said the rejection is based on old data and the Council is seeking to challenge the assessment. The Bangers and Cash fundraising road rally to support youth housing charity Roundabout has put on display in the Winter Gardens the work of local artists who have painted the bonnets of the rally cars. Local businesses have each bought an ‘old banger’ for less than £650. The four day rally to Monte Carlo is scheduled to take place over four days in September. As polls closed on the Pakistan Elections 2018 many from Sheffield’s Pakistani community gathered at the Pakistan Muslim Centre in Woodburn Road to watch the results come in. Opinion polls suggest a tight race between the ex-cricket star Imran Khan’s party and that of the jailed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Unite the Union have denied claims by transport bosses that industrial action on the Supertram network is deliberately targeting Tramlines festival goers. Strike action over the past two weeks has caused disruption on Sheffield’s Supertram network with around 200 drivers and conductors taking part in a pay dispute that is yet to be resolved.
