The newly created British Dodgeball Home Nations League brought its third league fixture to All Saints Sports Centre, Norfolk Park Road, for the meet between England and Scotland dodgeball teams. The Home Nations League was launched in January by British Dodgeball, the national governing body for dodgeball in the UK with the aim to raise awareness and to provide more opportunities for high performance players to develop in the fast growing team sport.
Members of Parliament, including all of Sheffield’s MPs, have voted to reject a no deal Brexit, following the second defeat of the Prime Minister’s withdrawal plans. Speaking to Sheffield Live! earlier this week, Sheffield Central MP and Shadow Brexit Minister, Paul Blomfield, said: “the negotiations have been handled catastrophically by the government”. Funding cuts have put the future of the groundbreaking U-Mix youth and community centre in doubt as talks between Sheffield Council and the charity Football Unites Racism Divides reach a critical stage. The £2.5m centre was opened in 2013, in Lowfield, under the management of FURD, and with grants from the Football Foundation and the government’s My Place initiative through the Big Lottery Fund. The Rab Climbing Works International Festival returned to Sheffield at the weekend with more than 400 competitors taking part in the two day event. Many are hoping to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games where sport climbing will make its debut. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Olympic gold medallist, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, has launched a new sports education programme to fast track 16-18 year olds into sporting careers. The Institute of Sporting Futures will be open from September 2019 at schools and colleges in Sheffield, Hull and Leeds. The scheme will offer a UCAS recognised Level 3 Diploma in sport and physical activities as an alternative to A Levels and will include three days a week in a sports-based work placement. Sheffield Council has called on the government to take urgent action to assist local pharmacies follows news that Lloyds Pharmacy will close their branch at Sainsbury’s Crystal Peaks store. The closure will mean, three pharmacies have shutdown in Sheffield in the last twelve months with closures already of Day Lewis Pharmacy, Crookesmoor and Bradway Pharmacy. Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson joined athletes at a launch event for the UK Invictus Games Trials which are set to take place in Sheffield in July. The UK event, a preparation for the international Invictus Games 2019 to be held in The Hague later in the year, will be the first ever national games for Biritish wounded, injured and sick armed services personnel and veterans. The trials will involve up to 500 athletes using the power of sport, teamwork and competition to accelerate their recovery including athletics, wheelchair basketball, powerlifting, swimming and sitting volleyball.
