Fun Palaces promote culture and community

The Fun Palaces campaign, a weekend dedicated to putting communities at the heart of culture, brought workshops and events to Sheffield’s libraries, theatres, parks and shopping malls. The campaign, organised across the UK and beyonds aims to democratise culture by nurturing untapped resources in the community and supporting people to develop new skills and polish up old ones. Campaigners seek second Brexit referendum

Remain campaigners from Sheffield for Europe mounted a lobby outside the Town Hall to call on councillors to support a motion on Brexit. The motion urges MPs to allow a second referendum on the Brexit deal, with the option to remain. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Oak tree campaign brings acorn to schools

A crowdfunding campaign launched in the name of the threatened Vernon Oak is set to distribute the children’s book The Lost Words to Sheffield schools and libraries. The book of spells and spelling looks at words from nature that are falling out of use and seeks to give them new life through writing and illustrations. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Breastfeeding campaign launched with Town Hall facility

Sheffield Council has officially opened a breastfeeding room at the Town Hall to encourage mums and future mums to breast feed their children. The dedicated room, just off the reception area of the Town Hall, will be available for use by any breastfeeding mum. The room has been equipped with a comfortable breastfeeding chair, baby changing station, a water cooler and a fan. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Free exercise classes for MS sufferers

The Sheffield and Rotherham MS Society is offering people with multiple sclerosis the chance to try a range of free activities to help keep fit and interact with others. Each exercise taster series, organised in partnership with Sheffield International Venues and Places for People, runs weekly for a six week period. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Site Gallery relaunch after £1.7m investment

Sheffield’s international contemporary art space, Site Gallery, has re-opened to the public at its Brown Street location following a £1.7million refurbishment.
