Dozens of Sheffielders with connections to Kashmir gathered to protest the Indian government’s decision to end the region’s special status. Since the decision, the territory, control of which is disputed with Pakistan, has been in lock down with thousands of additional troops sent to the region. Sheffield selected for faster broadband

Sheffield has been chosen as one of 36 towns and cities set to benefit from Openreach’s rollout of some of the fastest UK broadband speeds. The new infrastructure will see business and households enjoy faster connectivity with work set to begin next year and completion expected within 12 months. Community gym welcomes equipment donation

Sheffield’s Unity gym have thanked South Yorkshire Police after the force helped them to secure additional equipment following closure of a local gym. Gym equipment at the Moor Centre was destined for a skip until PC Simon Nolan persuaded board members to donate the equipment to a better home. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Youth justice service praised for work on knife crime

Sheffield Youth Justice Service has been rated as “good” with some areas of practice outstanding following a probation inspectorate review. The Youth Justice Service works with troubled young people, age between 10 to 18, some of whom are serving court sentences, while others have been given conditional cautions or community resolutions. The Inspector of Probation noted that Sheffield YJS has been at the forefront of work on knife crime. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Knife Angel decision could be reviewed

Sheffield Councillor Paul Wood, cabinet member for housing and community safety, told Sheffield Live! the decision not to host a sculpture aimed a tackling knife crime could be reviewed. The Knife Angel sculpture, created from blades handed in to UK police forces, has provoked mixed views but campaigners are calling for Sheffield to be among the cities hosting the touring sculpture. Sheffield MP joins campaign against sexual harassment

Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield has joined the campaign to raise awareness against sexual harassment in public spaces. Sheffield charity calls for action on human trafficking

Sheffield based charity Snowdrop is calling on the government to do more to raise awareness of human trafficking. Every year hundreds of people are trafficked into the UK and victims are being compelled into prostitution, forced labour or working excessively long hours, often in extreme conditions. Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh spoke to Lara Bundock, chief executive of Snowdrop.

Tramlines 2020 tickets in high demand

Within hours of going on sale Sheffield’s Tramlines Music Festival has already sold out on early bird tickets, following the success of this year’s event. About 7,000 people were already in a queuing system on the organisers’ website on Monday evening when the “super early bird tickets” went on sale for the annual event.
