President of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Jillian Thomas, welcomed a report, which favoured the city centre option, for the HS2 train stop. The report also said it would save £768 million pounds on the overall budget of the project to go for Midland station.

Two multi-million pound buildings have opened at Sheffield College this term, which aim to boost young people’s employment prospectives in areas such as engineering and the creative industries. The new building, now fully open to students, includes a theatre, recording studios and a new television studio. Principal of The Sheffield College, Heather Smith told Sheffield Live how she felt to have the buildings open.
My first encounter with Game Over was a Facebook invitation.
“Here we go…” I thought, “I can’t wait to decline this!”
I’m quite picky with events I go to, a general rule I follow is – if it’s not gigs, I’m not interested! I don’t even visit the cinema, and as somebody who spends hours alone rejecting social invitations on a regular basis in favour of being at one with my Xbox, I was at first reluctant to go to an event that would require me actually speaking to other human beings (and not down a mic).
Why do I need to go to a bar to play video games when I can just merrily sit here, check my phone (for the texts I’m not going to receive) and eat some custard creams in the comfort of my own crumb riddled bed?
This is why…
I realised almost immediately that Game Over has been the type of social activity I have been looking for. I was lucky to meet some of the nicest people I have ever interacted with and it was genuinely one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had in a long time. There is something quite brilliant about being complimented on your t-shirt because somebody knows it’s actually the vault boy and not TinTin!
What makes this night even better is that you don’t have to be some powernerd who spends all day on COD shouting at four year olds and throwing their controllers at the wall. Nope, this was for anybody who has an interest in anything games related new and old. I sometimes find that myself and others are put off by these events on the basis that there will be some know-it-all fedora wearing guy going around trying to educate people on the history of video games. Every single person I spoke to was down to earth and friendly.
And what better way to make some friends than virtually shooting them in the head?!
Not only can you kick some serious backside on Mario Kart, but you can eat a slice of pepperoni and neck a beer at the same time.
I really struggle to fault this event.

A zero-emissions refuelling station for hydrogen-powered cars – claimed to be the first of its kind in the country – has opened. ITM Power created the site at the Advanced Manufacturing Park near the M1 in Rotherham. It uses electricity generated by a wind turbine to split water into its constituent parts which are hydrogen and oxygen. The company says a hydrogen car could now fill up with enough fuel for it to reach London from South Yorkshire and that it only emits water vapour as it runs. They also say that because fossil fuels are not used in the production process, the station is the first carbon-neutral with zero emissions. Sheffield Live went down to find out more…
Professor Sir Harry Kroto lead the workshop. he was one of the team that discovered the nanopartical. Buckyball is made up of carbon atoms and not only is it the same shape as a football but it is also the same structure. It has many properties including being used to strengthen material.
Ponds Forge is going through a major refurb. The new gym will open in the autumn but meanwhile a temporary facility with over 90 machines is still available at the venue.
University of Sheffield have announced ground breaking research into the prevention of secondary breast cancer. The research in partnership with the University of Copenhagen has found that high levels of a particular enzyme is what leaves to secondary or metastatic breast cancer. The pioneering research, co-led by Dr Alison Gartland at the University of Sheffield’s Department of Human Metabolism, could lead to a better prognosis for cancer patients in the longer term.
