Sheffield speedway hopeful of autumn return

Sheffield Tigers Speedway club is hoping to be back on track in the autumn when they are also due to return to the top flight of the British speedway championships for the first time in over 20 years. Sheffield kicks off Home of Football campaign

A launch event at Sheffield Town Hall has blown the starting whistle on a campaign for recognition of Sheffield as the Home of Football. The Sheffield Home of Football Group unveiled a 180 page document citing the city’s place in early footballing history and setting out proposals outlining how the city could benefit. Sheffield hosts underwater hockey championship

Hundreds of athletes from 13 countries have been in Sheffield to take part in the world’s underwater hockey championship which is being held at Ponds Forge. The hectic sport which began in the 1950s is becoming increasingly popular with more than 100 teams across the UK. Team GB’s U24 and U19 are taking part in the competition and will be hoping to qualify for the final on Saturday. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Junior football club launches new kit

Sheffield United’s Junior Blades 1981 have been handed a boost ahead of their new football season kick off. The grassroots under 9’s football team debuted its new football kit on Thursday, designed and donated by mobile network operator Giffgaff. Seniors world snooker set for the Crucible

The ROKiT World Seniors Snooker competition is set to come to Sheffield for the first time with snooker legends Stephen Hendry, Jimmy White and Joe Johnson among 20 players from 16 countries competing for the trophy. Paralympic athletes compete for boccia cup

The Boccia England (BE) Cup brings together paralympic athletes for a weekend of competitive games held at the English Institute of Sports. The BE Cup is a by invitation competition for athletes who have excelled in previous competition performance. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Places still open on Jessica Ennis-Hill backed sports course

A new programme launched by retired Olympic gold medallist Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill in partnership with Notre Dame High School has had its second open day. The Institute of Sporting Futures programme aims to fast track young people into sporting careers and is seeking to recruit a further 12 students before its launch in September. The course is an alternative to ‘A’ levels and will offer a Level Three diploma in sport and physical activities including three days per week in a work placement.
