Sheffield charities join efforts on homelessness

Housing and homeless organisations in Sheffield have come together to share experiences and ideas to ensure everyone has a place to call home. Shelter, South Yorkshire Housing Association, Roundabout and Crisis were among Sheffield organisations at the event hosted at Theatre Deli to review support for the homeless including accommodation and housing services. Sheffield Live spoke to Tracey Nathan, manager of Shelter Sheffield.

Students launch NHS action group

Students at the University of Sheffield have launched an action group to defend the NHS with over 100 students joining since its launch at the start of the university term. Founder and medical student Dan Veness told Sheffield Live! the group plans to work alongside the Sheffield Save Our NHS campaign and has the backing of the Sheffield Students Union. Epilepsy charity celebrates 30 years

The Sheffield branch of Epilepsy Action are celebrating thirty years of voluntary work supporting those affected by epilepsy and raising funds for epilepsy services. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke Duncan Frogatt, chair of Sheffield Epilepsy Action.

Violence reduction fund opens in South Yorkshire

Youth organisations in South Yorkshire are being invited to present proposals for funding from the region’s newly launched Violence Reduction Unit. The unit has been awarded £1.6m of Home Office funding for work on preventing and reducing violent crime and is inviting youth and community organisations to apply for grants of up to £20,000. SynthFest returns to Sheffield

The UK’s premier synthesizer festival, SynthFest, has returned to Sheffield for its fourth year with over 1000 delegates attending exhibitions, workshops and performance at the Octagon Centre. Prime Minister promises more cash for the North

Boris Johnson, speaking at the Convention of the North in Rotherham, has announced he will set up a new body to bring more investment to the north of England. Students welcome change to graduate visas

Sheffield students have welcomed changes to visa regulations that would allow international students to stay in the UK for two years after graduation instead of the current four months.
