Meadowhall is 25 years today since it was first opened to the public. Over the weekend the centre will be celebrating its 25 years of existence and to celebrate the quarter of a centenary occasion the centre is hosting a weekend of birthday celebrations. Sheffield Live spoke to Darren Pearce who is the centre director of Meadowhall about the various events during the weekend and what it means to the community.
The Moor Market will begin opening from 8am tomorrow, to encourage more shoppers to come shopping in the market and boost trade. The market currently opens at 8.30am, but traders want people to be able to visit the market before they can start work in the city centre.

A demonstration was held today to stop the extradition of Janahan Sivanathan an asylum seeker who lives in South Yorkshire. Janahan is a Tamil from Sri Lanka. It is estimated that around 100,000 Tamils have either been murdered or gone missing during the Civil War. The Home Office says it does not comment on individual cases.

An exhibition that is encouraging young people to take up careers in Manufacturing, Engineering and Aviation took place at Magna. One of the projects based in East Yorkshire has people aged between 11 and 18 years old building a plane which they will then learn to fly.
