The US tech giant is rolling out a network of digital skills centres across the UK with Sheffield among the first. A former shop in Barker’s Pool has been converted into the Google Digital Garage with computers, superfast broadband and access to free training courses and advice. Nick Clegg, MP for Hallam, launched Tech North in Sheffield this week. Over 200,000 people are working in the creative and technical industries in the North. The scheme aims to see this number doubled.
Sheffield is the first place to have a dedicated forensic autopsy unit in the UK. The flagship service enables postmortems to be carried out with the use of a mouse instead of a knife. At the present time there is an additional cost attached to this service.
