A new report has revealed more vulnerable children than ever need crisis support as local authorities cut spending on services which help prevent them coming to harm. According to the report, investment in early intervention support by councils in England fell from £3.8bn to £1.9bn (50%) between 2010/11 and 2020/21. The report was commissioned by The Children’s Society, Action for Children, Barnardo’s, National Children’s Bureau and the NSPCC. South Yorkshire and other parts of the UK recorded temperatures of over 40C (104F) for the first time since records began. Thermometers hit 40.3C in many parts of South Yorkshire, well above the previous high of 38.7C in 2019. Sheffield’s Supertram network was shut for the day due to the extreme heat conditions. The report of the Independent Commission into Racism and Racial Disparities in Sheffield sets out a series of recommendations and actions for Sheffield to become an anti-racist city. The report of the commission follows two years of consultations, addressing a wide range of issues and calls for key organisations in Sheffield to come together around a comprehensive plan of action.
