South Yorkshire and other parts of the UK recorded temperatures of over 40C (104F) for the first time since records began. Thermometers hit 40.3C in many parts of South Yorkshire, well above the previous high of 38.7C in 2019. Sheffield’s Supertram network was shut for the day due to the extreme heat conditions.
