Rotherham Hospice this week they were celebrating Hospice Care Week. It’s timed to coincide with World Hospice and Palliative Care Day which is Saturday the 10th and this year, the theme is ‘connecting care’. Chief Executive Christopher Duff spoke to Sheffield Live about the event and the work they do at the hospice.
The European Championships, which are taking place in Denmark next week, will be the final major event before the 2016 Paralympic games, where athletes can directly qualify for Rio. Some of the athletes, including men’s class seven world champion Will Bayley, were training at the English Institute of Sport this week.
Yorkshire filmmaker has made a documentary that highlights what families go through after having a still born baby. Debbie Howard has been working on ‘Still Loved’ for about three years. The film follows seven families who each tell their stories. Debbie met most of the families whilst producing her previous short film, ‘Peekaboo.’ She decided to make the feature length documentary to reach a wider audience.
IMAN FM has celebrated one year of its existence this October. The community radio which is based in Attercliffe, broadcast into many different languages including English, Urdu, Punjabi and Bangali. I spoke to Hafiz Anwar Zahidy, to find out more about the radio station since it started in 2014.

An Independent Review looking into the handling of child sexual exploitation by South Yorkshire Police has been launched by Police and Crime Commissioner, Dr Alan Billings. It was announced back in March, following the Alexis Jay and the Louise Casey reports into Child Sexual Exploitation in Rotherham. Professor John Drew will be leading the review, which is expected to establish whether South Yorkshire Police have acted upon recent findings and inspections.
Nether Edge Primary School has been voted the best Primary School in Sheffield on the Star Education awards. Just couple of months ago the school was also rated outstanding by OFSTED.
People went along to the Moor today to celebrate active aging and mark the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. The Sheffield Fifty plus network took over The Moor to show the contributions older people make to society. The event included music, dancing, antiques, art and iPad training sessions.
Sparkle Sheffield, a group who support parents and carers with autistic children, are celebrating their first year of success. They run parent groups and advice sessions, and get the children involved in a range of activities. For their one year anniversary, the public could see art by the children and their families and get involved in an evening of entertainment.
The law around smoking in cars with children in them changes from Thursday the 1st of October. It will become illegal to smoke in a car when there are passengers under eighteen present. The law change coincides with Stoptober, a campaign that’s been running over the last few years to encourage people to give up smoking for twenty eight days.
