Full Monty celebrate twenty years

Members of Unite the Union Brass Band were out in force to celebrate the 20th anniversary at a Showroom cinema screening of the critically acclaimed film, the Full Monty. Former and current members of the band gathered at the cinema to recall their role in the story of former steelworkers who sought alternative employment. Viraaj wins restaurant of the year award

Sheffield curry house, Viraaj on Chesterfield Road, has been named best Yorkshire restaurant of the year in the English Curry Awards. The prize, presented at a ceremony in Manchester, adds to a growing list of awards for the restaurant. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Deadline looms for free childcare applications

Working parents have been reminded they must meet a 31 August deadline to apply for the new 30 hours free childcare offer which comes into effect in September. The new arrangements double the weekly hours of Free Early Learning, the Government-funded childcare programme available to 3 and 4 year olds, and eligible 2 year olds. Nursery bosses however are warning many parents may be unable to get places for their children as the funding available to nurseries will not match the cost of provision. Hotel offers food for the homeless

A team of chefs from Sheffield’s four-star Copthorne Hotel have been preparing hot meals for a local charity which supports homeless, vulnerable and socially excluded adults. Chefs from the 1855 Restaurant provided lunches for St Wilfrid’s Centre, Queen’s Road while the charity’s own chef was on holiday. Menus included steak, ale pie and plaice goujons with chips and mushy peas. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield Fayre goers enjoy the sun

Thousand of people flocked to Norfolk Heritage Park for the 16th annual Sheffield Fayre. The bank holiday crowds were not disappointed as the sun came out for the free event with attractions ranging from fairground rides and food to a blooming horticultural show, crafts, games and market stalls. Hundreds enjoy bank holiday weekend at Oktoberfest

Hundreds of people have been enjoying the August bank holiday weekend at Sheffield’s Oktoberfest on Devonshire Green. Boxing fans predict Mayweather v McGregor fight

In one of the most highly anticipated boxing matches of the year Floyd Mayweather and Conor Mcgregor will be stepping into the ring in the early hours of Sunday morning. Mayweather, 40, came out of retirement for the multi-million dollar fight and is one of the best boxers of his generation. School leavers get first look at new retail quarter

Sheffield school leavers have been given an opportunity by construction firm, BAM, to see how the cities new retail quarter is being developed. The company, working alongside Sheffield Council, is building the first phase of Sheffield’s new retail quarter located at the top of The Moor. Disney on Ice steps up search for new talent

Disney on Ice have launched a competition to choose one lucky young Sheffield skater to perform in the Fit to Dance Pre-show, when the event comes to Sheffield. The competition is open to children from the age of eight and will be open until September before the winner is selected to appear on the show. Young aspiring skaters from across the region have been offered masterclass skating sessions at Ice Sheffield to encourage them to register for the competition. The Disney On Ice show will take audiences on a globe trotting tour of Disney destinations from The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and Frozen. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!
