Selby crowned World Snooker Champion 2017

Reigning World Snooker Champion Mark Selby retained his title after beating former title-holder John Higgins. Snooker fans witnessed a spectacular final at the Crucible, with a controversial decision over the black ball in the 31st frame. Selby goes into the book of legends alongside the likes of Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry who have also won back to back titles. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Higgins and Selby after the match.

Marathon runner honoured with British Citizen Award

Ray Matthews of Rotherham, aged 75, has been honoured with the British Citizens Award for his exceptional contribution to the community after a series of fundraising marathons.  Matthews began the challenge in July last year to run 75 marathons in 75 days, and to raise  £75,000 to pay for a soft playground and specialist equipment for Newman School, a special needs school in Rotherham. Labour Party Conference in Sheffield

Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn delivered a speech in Sheffield, at the Yorkshire and Humber Labour Party annual Conference. He spoke about austerity, the junior doctors strikes, and recent cuts to the Steel industry in Sheffield. This was followed by a Labour In For Britain Question and Answer panel. The EU referendum will take place on Thursday the 23rd of June. Over a hundred Conservative MPs have said they want to leave the EU, including Mayor of London, Borris Johnson as well as Michael Gove. The campaign to leave says MPs would be more accountable to the public, households would save around a thousand pounds each year and Britain could regain control over it’s borders.

SLTV celebrates it’s first birthday

SLTV first hit your screens on 23 September 2015 so we celebrated with a special edition of Talking Sheffield hosted by Simon Thake in front of a live audience. The guests were Steve Buckley, Chair of SLTV, Sara Hill from Opus Magazine and Lia Nici from Estuary TV.
