Netherlands Circus comes to Sheffield

The Netherlands National Circus has arrived in Sheffield as part of a UK tour with a show featuring acrobats, clowns, illusion and pyrotechnics. The tour coincides with the 250th anniversary year for circus in the UK. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Muslims angered by hate mail

South Yorkshire Police says it wants to reassure residents that a full investigation is under way into malicious communications sent to addresses in Sheffield. Officers say they have received reports of three letters encouraging people to take part in “Punish a Muslim Day”. According to reports similar letters have been delivered in other cities including Bradford, Leicester, London, and Cardiff. A national operation has been launched to investigate the letters, co-ordinated by counter terrorism officers. Weekender athletes pay tribute to women of steel

Women athletes taking part in the Outdoor City Weekender gathered today at Sheffield’s iconic women of steel sculpture to pay tribute to the women who worked in Sheffield’s steelworkers during the two world wars. The outdoor activities festival runs from Friday through Sunday and includes climbing, bike riding and and a film festival. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to cyclist Hannak Johnson.

Police chief asked to explain response to tree row

Liberal Democrat peer, Paul Scriven, is demanding South Yorkshire Police explain the deployment of dozens of police officers on Abbeydale Park Rise on Monday, when a row began between tree campaigners and council contractor Amey. Sheffield Live! reporter, Baillor Jalloh, spoke to Lord Scriven.

Doodling draws a crowd for charity fundraiser

A new creative art and fundraising event Funk ‘n’ Doodle, hosted at The Albion pub on London Road, has raised over £7,000 for Mind, the mental health charity. The event, bringing people together to destress by doodling and dancing to a funky soundtrack of up and coming Sheffield DJ’s, is the debut promotion of Fellevents, a student-led arts collective. National campaign highlights apprenticeship opportunities

Sheffield College expects to place around ninety 16 to 24 year olds into apprenticeship vacancies as part of the National Apprenticeship Week campaign. The week long promotion highlights the benefits of apprenticeships for the young people involved as well as for the employer and wider community. Countdown to Brook v. Rabchenko

Sheffield boxer Kell Brook is set to goes head to head against Sergey Rabchenko with an attempt to reignite his career in a bout for the WBC Silver title at the FlyDSA Arena. Brook lost his IBF welterweight title to american Errol Spence last year and said he fell out of love with the sport but is now seeking to make a comeback. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!
