Dozens rally to save Niche Nightclub

More than fifty people march through Sheffield city centre on Saturday in a bid to save Niche Nightclub on Walker Street whose licence is under review following a stabbing incident. The rally began peacefully outside the club and proceed to the Town Hall and then to Snig Hill police station. The club was issued with a 48-hour closure notice after five men were injured on 23 December, four of them with stab wounds. Sheffield Council will meet on Thursday to decide the faith of the club. Radio show launches record label

A popular weekly radio show on Sheffield Live community radio has led to the setting up of a record label and the launch of a first CD for music and comedy duo, the Glummer Twins. The Steel and Wire Show, produced by Harry Welburn, focuses on bluegrass, americana and old time folk music. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Drumming up awareness of mental health

A mortgage advisor from Chesterfield has been playing a percussion marathon at Yellow Arch Studios to raise awareness of mental health issues. Martin Conlon aims to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity Mental Health UK. Conlon said he was doing it to honour the memory of his son who died, age 23, after suffering from mental health problems. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Musical adventure hits the right note

Sheffield charity, Music in the Round, have commissioned a concert and storytelling performance for children featuring a music-loving dog and cat. Stan and Mabel and the Race for Space is an illustrated story with original music by children’s composer in residence, Paul Rissmann. Music lovers launch anti-racism campaign

Local organisers for the national Love Music Hate Racism campaign are holding an all-day fundraising event this weekend supported by Sheffield musicians and taking place at the White Lion pub in Heeley. The event aims to bring people together through music to support the anti-racism campaign and to raise funds for bigger events in the future. Nether Edge Festival kicks off with carnival

The week long Nether Edge Festival has launched with an official opening and carnival at St Peter’s Hall Common Ground on Machon Bank Road. Sheffield Carnival returns for August bank holiday

Sheffield Carnival is set to return for the first time since the 1980s with a colourful parade which will take place at the Norfolk Heritage Park. The carnival, with costumes, music, food and cultural activities will run alongside Sheffield Fayre as a free, family friendly event. Tramlines Festival returns for ninth year

Tramlines Festival returned to Sheffield for the ninth year this weekend with top-billed artists including Toots and the Maytals, All Saints and The Libertines. The city-wide urban music festival featured top artists across five main stages including at Ponderosa Park and Devonshire Green, with a host of fringe events in Sheffield’s pubs and clubs.
