Tramlines Festival returns for ninth year

Tramlines Festival returned to Sheffield for the ninth year this weekend with top-billed artists including Toots and the Maytals, All Saints and The Libertines. The city-wide urban music festival featured top artists across five main stages including at Ponderosa Park and Devonshire Green, with a host of fringe events in Sheffield’s pubs and clubs. Sharrow Festival brought people together for another day of celebration with music, games, street art, food, campaign stalls and more. Sheffield legend Joe Cocker story told in new biopic

New documentary Joe Cocker: Mad Dog with Soul features never-before-seen footage of the Sheffield soul and blues legend including backstage at the celebrated 1969 Woodstock Festival. The recently released film, which was on show at Sheffield Doc/Fest tracks the star’s musical career and difficult journey to sobriety with archive footage and interviews with close associates. Peace in the Park celebrates 15th year

The Peace in the Park festival returned to Sheffield for 2017 with the message of reclaiming peace in the world and the power of community action. Music fans join queue for vinyl on Record Store Day

Record Collector music shop in Broomhill was among 200 independent record stores across the UK celebrating the tenth annual Record Store Day. Exclusive vinyl releases produced for the day included rare David Bowie and Smiths recordings and many participating shops and cities also hosted artist performances and events to mark the occasion. Rum Festival comes to Sheffield

Trafalgar Warehouse hosts the travelling Rum Festival this weekend in Sheffield. The Caribbean and Cuban themed event features live music, dancing and street food as well as over 100 different varieties of rum to taste. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Festival of creativity to celebrate people and cultures

Sheffield’s Festival of Arts and Humanities 2017, a celebration of people and cultures, has been launched at a showcase event at the Millennium Gallery. The main festival, which is organised by Sheffield University, is to run at various venues for a three week period from the beginning of May. It will feature world renowned writers, poets and historians, film screenings, music, medieval cabaret and a Roman feast with the aim of stimulating imagination, creativity and “thinking about thinking”. SheFest fringe festival celebrates women and girls

The SheFest fringe festival was in full swing on the streets of Sheffield at the weekend with music, dance, fashion and workshops across the city. Inspired by International Women’s Day the city-wide festival ran throughout the week and culminated in a weekend of celebration of women and girls. Simon Thake reports for Sheffield Live!

Spotlight on women in music at Off the Shelf festival

As part of Sheffield’s Off the Shelf Festival of Words, Girl Gang collective and promoter Sheffield Girl collaborated for a music-themed weekend. The event included discussion about women’s contribution to the Sheffield music scene and a participative display to generate a timeline of the history of women in Sheffield music. Under the Stars with legendary DJ Pipes

Sheffield social enterprise, Under The Stars, are celebrating a new generation of DJ talent. Newly trained DJs will be demonstrating their skills alongside other artists and music acts, including Sheffield legend DJ Pipes, as part of a collaboration with ‘Party for the People’. Under the stars is a social enterprise run by and for people with a learning disability and their friends.
