3rd May: Sheffield United end the season on a high with Ben Davies and Ryan Flynn on Target for Sheffield United win over Coventry City (Sheffield United 2-1 Coventry City)

For Coventry Nathan Delfouneso ran onto John Fleck’s pass to score in the 39th minute.

In the 62nd minute, Ryan Flynn equalised with a laid back finish with a left foot form the centre of the box.

Ben Davies then scored the winner with a left footed shot, which was assisted by Conor Coady.

That was Coady’s second assist of the day.

Sheffield United end the season in 7th place.

Attendance: 20,723

3rd May:Sheffield Wednesday lose on the final day against Ipswich Town (Ipswich Town 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday)

Tommy Smith opened the goal scoring account for Ipswich Town in the 37th minute with a tap in.

In the 55th minute, Kieran Lee then equalised with a left footed shot from the Centre of the box.

Paul Green then grabbed the winner for Ipswich with a header in the 67th minute.

Wednesday end the season in 16th

29th April: Chris Porter scores to earn a point for the blades (Oldham Athletic 1, Sheffield United 1)

Oldham Athletic’s Conor Brown’s cross was met by the head of James Wilson in the centre of the box, who directed the ball in to bottom right hand corner, in the 17th minute.

Sheffield United came back through Conor Coady’s goal, which was unfortunately ruled off-side in the 43rd minute.

However the Blades kept on improving in the second half. There were eventually rewarded with an equalising goal in the 84th minute. The goal was set up by Jamie Murphy’s slow cross, which was met by Chris Porter’s right footed close range shot.

The game ended 1-1.

United’s last game will be at home against Coventry City on Saturday 3rd May at 3pm

Attendance; 3,949.

26th April: Sheffield Wednesday lose at home to Bolton Wanderers (Sheffield Wednesday 1, Bolton Wanderers 3)

The Wanderers secured the victory in the space of half an hour.

Jermaine Beckford’s cross was met by the right foot of Neil Danns, who slotted the ball in the centre of the goal in the 8th minute.

The second goal was secured by Lee Chung-yong’s stunner from outside the box in the 17th minute.

The third and final goal came form Liam Trotter’s screamer from outside the box in the 29th minute.

Sheffield Wednesday’s goal came in the 38th minute through the left foot of Joe Mattock, who shot from outside the box following a corner to end up in the top left hand corner.

Bolton Wanderers won 3-1.

Wednesday’s final game of the season will be away to Ipswich Town Saturday 3rd May 12:15pm

8th April: Sheffield Wednesday earn a point in a six goal thriller (Nottingham Forest 3 – Sheffield Wednesday 3)

Sheffield Wednesday opened the account with a penalty form Chris Maguire in the 15th minute. In the 44th Minute Jamie Murphy Headed in the equaliser for Forest. Just before the break Lewis Buxton headed in a goal in the 45th to put Wednesday ahead again.

After the break Sheffield were at a two goal advantage through Joe Mattock’s long-range effort in the 57th minute. Forest were then back in the game through Marcus Tudgay’s header in the 77th minute. Danny Collins was sent off due to another yellow card offence.

Ten men Forest then equalised through a Jamie Paterson free kick which hit the top left corner in the 87th minute. Sheffield Wednesday are 15th with 49 points. Wednesday’s next game is at home against Blackburn on the 12th April at 15.00

Attendance: 20,185.

8th April: Derby day see’s Ben Davies last minute penalty to earn United the win! (Sheffield United 1 – Rotherham 0)

Nigel Clough made eight changes to a younger side, resting players before the FA cup semi-final against Hull on Sunday. Craig Morgan made contact in the box with United Harry Maguire to award United the penalty. Ben Davies scored the only goal of the game when he converted a penalty to seal all three points in the 90th minute.

This result ended Rotherham’s 16 game undefeated run.

However with this result United remain 11th in the league, being eight points off the mark of the play-off places, with fives games to go.

The best chances in the game from Rotherham who had James Tavernier and Tom Hitchcock being denied by keeper George Long. United take the the win with a F.A cup semi final game looming away against Hull on Sunday 13th April.

Attendance: 21,529.

5th April – Sheffield United settle for a draw against Leyton Orient.

In the 41st minute Dean Cox blast Leyton orient into the lead, after skillfully lifting the ball over a United Defender and placing the ball in the back of the net.

United then equalised through a run from a loose ball to then tap the ball in home in the 63rd minute.

The Blades then had a chance to claim all 3 points through Conor Coady and John Brayford close chances.

Attendance: 16,809.

4th April – Sheffield Wednesday lose 2-1 against high flyers Leicester City.

Leicester went ahead through a Riyad Mahraz goal which was driven driven across Chirs Kirkland form 18 yards, in the 10th minute.

Wednesday then equalised in the 37th minute through a blast form Michail Antonio to beat Kasper Schmeichel.

However this was over shadowed by Anthony Knockhaert’s winner which was a super 20- yard free -kick which claimed all three points in the 61st minute.

Attendance: 26,103.

Another exciting week for Sheffield football fans, writes Sheffield Live! volunteer Nathan Murray.

Sheffield Wednesday take three points in injury time (25th March: SWFC vs Brighton & Hove Albion, 1-0)

Leon Best helped to claim all three points with an 18 yard strike after a powerful break from the left of the park into the the penalty area to claim his fourth goal of his campaign in the 90th minute.

David Rodriguez went close to opening the goal account for Brighton by heading the ball against the cross bar.

Another chance was wasted by Will Buckley when his chance hit Wednesday’s goal keeper Chris Kirkland straight on, after he was clean through on goal.

Wednesday go 13th with their next meeting against Watford at home on 29th March at 15:00.

Attendance was 18,192.

United 7 points shy of playoffs (25th March: Crawley 0, Sheffield United 2)

Sheffield United are 7 points shy of the playoffs after double from Conor Coady.

Jamie Murphy’s cross helped Conor Coady to strike home his first goal in the 18th minute.

Mark Connolly and Andy Drury missed out on opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net for Crawley Town.

The combination of Jamie Murphy and Conor Coady increased Sheffield’s lead with another right footed shot from Coady, which came from a cross by Jamie Murphy again.

Attendance was 3,622.

Sheffield Wednesday down against Doncaster (22nd March)

Derby Day saw Wednesday go 1-0 down against Doncaster Rovers.

Wednesday started off the brightest in the first half against Doncaster with chances from Leon Best missing a close range shot and the second chance being a header that was well saved by Sam Johnstone in the second half.

Wednesday came into the game with two wins before against Birmingham and QPR.

The only goal of the game came from Chris Brown who put Rovers 1-0 ahead in the 32nd minute with a tap -in. This saw Rovers go eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Attendance was 12,609.

Sheffield United celebrate 125 years as a football club (22nd March; United 0, Wolverhampton Wanderers 2)

Wolves’ James Henry’s long range shot dodged team mate Dave Edwards and United goal keeper Mark Howard who was caught out, for the ball to bulge the back of the net, in the 12th minute.

Henry was then at the heart of the attack again by striking the post.
At the other end Richard Stearman’s cleared ball from the line after John Brayford’s Shot.

The second half saw James Henry again looking sharp with a cross into Dave Edwards who then converted the ball into the back of the net in the 52nd minute.

This loss also ended United’s 11 game unbeaten run.

Despite losing 2-0 Sheffield United celebrated the day with starting the game at 1.25pm to commemorate 125 years of the club. Celebrations started at the beginning of the day with music from the Dinnington Colliery Brass Band and fans sipping on the special ale from the Blades’ brewers, amongst a sea of red and white supporters.

Attendance was 21,659.
