Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield has been out on the streets campaigning and meeting with residents in Manor Park and Highfield as part of a day of action on the crisis in the NHS. The Labour MP, a fierce critic of Government health policies, has accused Prime Minister Theresa May of cynical disregard of the crisis in mental health services for young people. Lamin Ceesay, a Gambian resident in Sheffield, has spoken to Sheffield Live! about ex-pat fears for the country’s future as the post-election stand-off continues in the former British colony in West Africa. Adama Barrow, the man who won the election in The Gambia in December has been sworn in as the new president. He took the oath of office at his country’s embassy in neighbouring Senegal, ordering Gambian soldiers to remain in their barracks. Meanwhile, Gambian strongman Yahya Jammeh, President of the country since 1994, has refused to step down as his term in office expires. Troops are reported to be on stand-by to remove him by force. An art exhibition with a difference has launched today at Theatre DELLI-CAT-ESSON on The Moor. ‘Art in Crisis’ showcases the work done by homeless people who are supported by charity, ‘Crisis.’ There’ll be many performances and workshops over the next couple of weeks, to get the public involved and raise awareness of homelessness.
