Masquerade ball raises £5,000 for diabetes charity

A Sheffield sixth former has raised over £5,000 for the charity Diabetes UK by hosting a fundraising masquerade ball. Sixteen year-old Ellie Channer sought to raise awareness and to help others with the condition after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes herself. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield artists’ open studios celebration

Open Up Sheffield was created in 1998 as an annual showcase for independent artists and craftspeople, across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. On yer bike! Urban cyclists test the cobbles

Sheffield Urban CX hosted a cycle race in and around Kelham Island Industrial Museum this weekend. The Urban CX race format ‘re-imagines’ spaces in the city and turns them into an arena for riders to test their skills on courses that incorporate unusual features from the urban landscape. Polish School in Sheffield celebrates heritage day

Polish Heritage Day, 7 May, is a new initiative of the Polish Embassy in London and the Polish School in Sheffield is organising a celebratory event with talks and Polish food. The event is one of many taking place across the country intended to become an annual festival on the weekend after 3 May, when in 1791 Poland proclaimed its modern codified constitution. Carvalhal refuses questions over contract

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal threatened to walkout of a press conference after facing contract related questions. The tense meeting with the press came after a comment the Owls boss made on Alan Biggs’ Talking Sheffield show on Sheffield Live! this week. Carvalhal seemed to suggest that his contract was up at the end of this season wheres he had previously intimated he had a further two years left to run. Simon Thake reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield engineering students seek Parkinson’s solution

A Sheffield University engineering competition sets students a challenge to improve the lives of people with a disability or impairment. The ‘Make a Change’ scheme asks students to put their engineering skills to practical use. Past winners have gone on to win prestigious awards and recognition. Doc/Fest 2017 gears up for June launch

Doc/Fest, Sheffield’s international documentary film festival, is set to deliver another spectacular programme of events for indie and documentary film fanatics. With over 170 films on show, the festival will include immersive and interactive documentaries using virtual reality and other technologies to tell factual stories. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Dan Tucker, curator of alternative realities, and Luke Moody, director of film for Doc/Fest. The festival takes place 9-14 June at venues across the city.

Wilder reflects on United title win

Blades boss Chris Wilder was appointed last summer to spearhead United’s promotion campaign after the team’s six years in League One. Wilder came with a strong pedigree after winning League Two with Northampton Town last year. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Wilder before the Blades’ victory parade.
