The Centre for Equity & Inclusion at the University of Sheffield has launched a new programme for post-graduate researchers of minority backgrounds. The scheme offers training workshops, mental health and wellbeing support, and mentoring opportunities. Now in its second year, the research hub seeks to enhance the university experience for post-graduates of colour, while challenging racism within and beyond higher education. Wilko shops are to close across the UK tis weekend after the company went into administreation in August and failed to find a buyer. The Women of the World Festival is returning to Rotherham on 10 June for its second year running, with a packed programme of events. A new alliance of mental health providers and service users has been launched to improve the health and well-being of the people of Sheffield. The Synergy mental health alliance has more than 100 members including voluntary organisations, decision makers from the local authority, GP’s, and experts by lived experience working together to improves the lives of people with mental health issues. BBC radio journalists in Sheffield and other parts of England have been on strike with a 48 hour walk out in a dispute over cuts to local radio services.
