Creative arts charity CADS acquires new workspace

Sheffield charity CADS, has taken over a former foundry, Eagle Works in Attercliffe, to provide low cost space for creative arts projects. The building was home to a steelworks firm which went in to administration. Now CADS is seeking to bring the building back to life. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Kieren Ancliffe.

Sheffield City Region selected to host Horasis China 2017 conference

Sheffield City Region has been confirmed as host of Horasis China 2017, an international economic summit bringing together Chinese business leaders and their global counterparts. Senior delegates from business and government will be in Sheffield in November 2017 to debate strategies that will shape the global economy and forge new approaches to pressing social, economic, and geopolitical challenges. Sheffield shop owners plan for city to come ‘alive after five’

Shops and stalls in Sheffield city centre will be open late on Thursday night as part of the recently launched ‘alive after five’ campaign. The evening opening aims to boost footfall in the quiet period after work and before the night time economy takes off. Key Fund launches £10m fund to support 300 social enterprises

Key Fund, the North of England’s specialist social investor, has launched a new £10m fund to invest in 300 social enterprises over the next three years. Founded in 1999, the Sheffield-based Key Fund has supported thousands of social enterprises to deliver positive social impact in communities across the North and Midlands. Social enterprises supported can operate across any sector, and could be as diverse as new artists, reducing homelessness, recycling projects and community-run pubs. The new £10m fund includes loan and grant investment packages of up to £150,000 per business. Key Fund have also secured a £4.5m finance arrangement from Big Society Capital, to support general investment activity. Social enterprise set to benefit from EU regional investment

Social Enterprise Exchange is a new initiative to support social enterprise in Sheffield City Region and backed by European Union funding. The project aims to promote social entrepreneurship and contribute toward jobs, growth and social inclusion. At a launch event in Sheffield participants heard from local social enterprise success stories. Sheffield Live! is a partner in the community-based delivery consortium together with CM Solutions, Groundwork South Yorkshire, Cultural Industries Quarter Agency, South Yorkshire Community Foundation, Voluntary Action Barnsley, and CVP Bolsover. Sheffield taxi drivers rally against licence loophole

A loophole in the law has allowed over seven hundred Sheffield taxi drivers to operate with licences issued by councils hundreds of miles away. Over four hundred of the licences were issued in Rossendale, Lancashire. The news has sparked concerns over safety and welfare. Equality campaigners call for more action on gender pay gap

A recent study by the Institute for Fiscal Studies indicates men still get paid significantly more than women, with the difference increasing for women with children. New rules requiring companies with over 250 employees to report gender pay differences will come into effect in 2017. Equality campaigners argue more needs to be done. 50% reduction for stall holders in Moor Market

Market traders in the new Moor market are going to get a 50% reduction in rent in the hope that the new prices will encourage more people to set up stalls.  Family days and other activities are also going to be held during the summer to try and attract more people to the area.  The old Castle Market is currently been knocked down. The number of shoppers expected at the market has never been achieved and because of the recession many stall holders have had to close down.
