Sheffield golf fans cheer on Danny for Rio glory

Masters Champion Danny Willett will be aiming for gold this Summer as he makes the long trip to Rio. Whilst the Top 4 golfers in the World have all pulled out of the Olympics including Rory Mcllroy, Sheffield born Danny is now in prime position to capitalise. Andy Carnall the Golf General Manager from Sheffield International Venues certainly fancies his chances.

Deadly IS blast in Syria

Forty four people have been killed in a bomb attack in the city of Qamishli in north east Syria. The blast was caused by a truck bomb near the kurdish security headquarters off the border with Turkey. The so called islamic state have said it was behind the attack. SHE Fest marks International Women’s Day

People went along to the HUBs today, for the main event of SHE Fest. The fringe festival has been taking place over the last couple of weeks to celebrate and raise awareness of International Women’s Day. The public could take part in a range of workshops, ranging from technology and engineering careers to relationships and domestic violence. There was also live music, jewellry stalls and a fashion show. The organisers say they hope the event will benefit all ages, geners and cultures to understand and engage with the women’s movement and notions of equality. I went along to find out more.

Peace and Unity Walk to honour the ordinary

People from different faith organisations in Sheffield and members of the public were invited to take part in a Peace and Unity walk around the city centre. They were standing in solidarity to remember the one hundred and thirty people who lost their lives in Paris, and those who died in other recent attacks. They went from the Town Hall, towards Tudor Square then back round to the City Hall, stopping on the way for quiet moments of reflection.

Sheffield turns purple for World Prematurity Day

People gathered in the Peace Gardens to mark World Prematurity Day. Around one in ten babies worldwide are born prematurely. Landmarks around the world have turned purple to raise awareness, remember those who have lost babies, and celebrate the children who have survived. Julie Bathie, a Senior sister of the Neo Natal unit at Jessops Wing, organised the event in the Peace Gardens.

Sheffield honours the terror victims in Paris

Sheffield joins millions of people across the world to have a minute silence at 11am this morning to stand in solidarity with the french people, after the simultaneous terror attacks in Paris on Friday evening that left at least one hundred and twenty nine people dead and more than three hundred and fifty injured.
