Take a walk up to White Edge with our wardens, one of the best places to observe the autumnal spectacle of the rut, where male red deer compete for females by roaring and, occasionally, locking antlers. Our knowledgeable staff will be on hand with information about the deer and our work to conserve and enhance this landscape. If you have your own binoculars or telescope, bring them along with you. We’ll have some pairs that can be shared around.
Morning and afternoon sessions – either 10am-12pm or 1pm-3pm
Dogs are welcome on this walk, provided they are kept on a short lead of less than 2m and remain quiet and under control throughout the event.
Please come dressed appropriately for the weather, in warm clothes and waterproofs with spare layers in a bag. Good, sturdy, waterproof boots with a deep tread and ankle support are recommended. No food or drink is provided, but if you wish you may bring your own.
Accessibility: This walk takes in approximately 2.5km and some steep and uneven surfaces which we will cover at a steady pace with plenty of stops to view the deer. Families with young children are welcome. If you would like more information about the walk, please contact us.
