Stall holders at Sheffield Moor Market were in festive mood at the weekend as they put on fancy dress costumes to raise money for Mission Christmas the largest annual Christmas toy appeal in the UK. In 2015 the appeal generated upwards of £13 million pounds in gifts and donations which were distributed to more than 300,000 disadvantaged children across the UK. Sheffield Carol Day, an event to celebrate local Sheffield carols was held in the Winter Gardens on Saturday to mark the countdown to Christmas. The event organised by local folk collective, Soundpost, included local groups performing their favourite carols and encouraged to join the singing and celebration. Sheffield Live! reporter Shamaan Freeman-Powell spoke to local singer, Gina Walter, about the history of Sheffield carols and caroling.
The Cathedral Archer Project marked its twenty fifth anniversary today by getting people to sign a Christmas card. The project supports homeless people by offering food, advice and support. The card is going to travel around the City before returning to The Cathedral on Christmas Eve.
