Sheffield City Council has been holding a recruitment fair at the Millennium Gallery to provide advice and information about opportunities in the care industry and to recruit new care workers. The event was attended by the council’s apprenticeship, social work, intervention and prevention, residential children’s, and fostering and adoption teams. Two WW1 memorial plaques, made of stainless steel, are on their way to France to renew the Sheffield Pals Battalion Monument, part of the Sheffield Memorial Park in Serre. The plaques were presented to Sheffield Council by the Yorkshire Regiment at a Sheffield Town Hall event which also marked the launch of the Sheffield Pals Pride Cycle Ride. Participating in the fundraising cycle ride, a 400 mile journey from the city to the Sheffield Memorial Park in France, will be the Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Magid Magid, the Lord Mayor’s Consort, Gavin Holliday, and staff from Sheffield Council and Meadowhall. An obstacle course fun run, featuring giant mazes, walls, gauntlets and slides, is set to come to the Rother Valley Country Park in September. Jos Luhukay’s first match in charge of the Owls ended on a positive start with a goalless draw at Bramall Lane on Friday night. Sheffield Wednesday took a point from the match despite going down to ten men in the second half. Owls captain Glenn Loovens was sent off for a second bookable offence but the Blades, who won 4-2 at Hillsborough in September, could not make the breakthrough. A new park and ride facility has been unveiled in Tinsley at IKEA Sheffield. The development was one of the conditions of planning approval for the furniture store and brings a total of eight park and ride facilities now available across the city. A youth football club in Burngreave has been granted funding to help tackle extremism and keep young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour. The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire has awarded £4,500 to Aden Steelers Football Club from his Community Grants Scheme.
