Sheffield boxer, Loua Nassa, wins first title

Twenty-one year old Sheffield boxer Loua Nassa beat Sergey Tasimov of Estona to win the International Challenge belt at Pond’s Forge. Nassa now has nine wins on his record and is unbeaten in the bantomweight division. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Loua Nassa and his coach Dennis Hobson.

Top academy footballers in Sheffield for world tournament

Nearly 900 academy football players, including from some of the world’s top clubs, are competing for the Youdan Trophy in Sheffield. The competition for young footballers was started three years ago as a way of providing up-and-coming referees with top level match experience. From just eight teams in the inaugural event it is now attracting top-flight clubs from as far as Japan and South Africa. The 40 teams taking part this year include under-14 and under-16 academy teams from Manchester United and Seattle Sounders as well as Sheffield’s two main clubs. Thousands attend Sheffield Pride

Thousands joined Sheffield Pride at Endcliffe Park in support of Sheffield’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. The event returned to its original venue for the second time, after being held in recent years on Devonshire Green and at Sheffield University Students’ Union. Campaigners block Abbeydale Road family eviction

Dozens of protesters mounted a successful blockade at a property on Abbeydale Road to prevent eviction of a family from their home. Campaigners from ACORN anti-eviction group said the family had been forced to live with a pest infestation and disrepair, including damp and broken furnishings, but when they complained to the landlord they were served with an eviction notice despite being up to date with their rent. Brooks ready for first team play, says Blades skipper

David Brooks is ready to play a big part for Sheffield United in the coming football season according to Blades skipper Billy Sharp. Academy star Brooks who appeared for England under 19s this summer has joined the United first team squad and scored four goals in pre-season matches. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield councillor attacked by masked biker

Ben Miskell, councillor for Park and Arbourthorne, has spoken of the terrifying moment a masked biker attacked his car as he sat inside. The attack happened, according to Miskell, after he stopped to photograph the rider pulling wheelies on East Bank Road. He told Sheffield Live! the rider circled the vehicle and started kicking the car boot, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage in what appeared a deliberate attempt at intimidation. Council condemns government plan on vehicle pollution

Councillor Jack Scott, cabinet member for transport and sustainability, said the plan to ban diesel and petrol vehicles by 2040 is “woefully inadequate”. Rotherham teenager qualifies for world CrossFit Games

Sheffield College engineering student Murtaza Nadeem, 17, has qualified to compete in this year’s Reebok CrossFit Games to be held in Madison, Wisconsin from 3 to 6 August. Nadeem, from Rotherham, is the first British competitor in the 16 to 17 category to compete in the games. CrossFit incorporates elements of gymnastics, cycling, running and swimming to test stamina, strength, endurance, coordination and balance. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Kyle Tomlinson set to open Special Olympics

Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Kyle Tomlinson, is the latest star to be added to the line up for the Special Olympics 2017 opening ceremony which will take place at Bramall Lane on 8 August. More than 20,000 people are expected to attend the event at the Sheffield United ground. Sheffield-born Tomlinson will be singing the national anthem and performing alongside Tony Hadley, James Toseland and others personalities. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!
