Sheffield Wednesday: Owls boss under pressure

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has said he’s not afraid of being sacked despite recent losses. The Owls boss is under pressure after loosing against city rivals Sheffield United at Hillsborough followed by a 0-1 defeat against Birmingham city on Tuesday night. Wednesday are currently fourteenth in the Championship and face another difficult task at the weekend against regional rivals Leeds United.

Olympic Legacy Park official opening

The Olympic Legacy Park in the Don Valley has been officially opened by the former Sheffield MP and ex-Sports Minister, Richard Caborn. The 35 acre complex is set to be part of an innovation distrct for health and wellbeing research and learning including the new UTC college, Oasis Academy School and an indoor arena that will be home to Sheffield Sharks basketball team. The outdoor spaces will feature two running routes, a 100m track and 3G sports pitches. The park will also include a hotel and business offices. Doncaster Knights sign Sheffield lad

Doncaster Knights have signed rising rugby union professional and Sheffield lad Curtis Wilson, who was until recently with Sheffield Eagles under a short term deal. The 25 year old winger has signed a season long contract with the Knights who currently sit in the top half of the championship table. Sheffield celebrates Special Olympics athletes

Following the success of Special Olympics 2017 GB National Summer Games, Sheffield Council hosted a lunch reception to congratulate the athletes and their coaches. During the week long event some 2,600 athletes with intellectual disabilities took part in various sporting events across the city. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Boxing fans predict Mayweather v McGregor fight

In one of the most highly anticipated boxing matches of the year Floyd Mayweather and Conor Mcgregor will be stepping into the ring in the early hours of Sunday morning. Mayweather, 40, came out of retirement for the multi-million dollar fight and is one of the best boxers of his generation. Community partners launch Parson’s Cross Summerfest

A week long festival of activities for young people has been launched in Parson’s Cross with the support of Sheffield Council and local community partners. Summerfest offers music, games, sports, a pop cinema, tech workshops and craft activities and is taking place at Chaucer School and The Learning Zone. Organisations involved include SOAR, the University of Sheffield, SWFC Community Outreach, YMCA White Rose, Parson Cross Initiative and Chaucer School. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield Sharks captain takes on double role

The Sheffield Sharks have announced they will extend captain Mike Tuck’s contract for the 2017/18 season but with an extra twist. The 6’7″ power forward has held the role of captain for the last five years and has recently been given a marketing role with the Sharks alongside his playing career.  Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Special Olympics 2017 – Day 4

The Special Olympics 2017 GB National Games have drawn to a close with a final day of competition, medals and closing celebrations for athletes and supporters. The country’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities, with 2600 participants, took place at thirteen venues across Sheffield. Special Olympics 2017 – Day 3

Emotions were flying high on the third day of Special Olympics Great Britain 2017 as the awards flowed at events across the city. Sheffield Live! caught up with more of the medal winners and competitors, with sports action including gymnastics at ICE Sheffield and badminton at English Institute of Sports, plus more highlights from track and field at the Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium on Woodbourn Road. Special Olympics 2017 – Day 2

On the morning after the opening ceremony for Special Olympics 2017 there were bronze, silver and gold medals glinting in the sun as serious competition got underway at venues across Sheffield. With 2600 athletes competing across twenty sports in thirteen Sheffield venues, the medals tally has begun to roll.
