Weekender athletes pay tribute to women of steel

Women athletes taking part in the Outdoor City Weekender gathered today at Sheffield’s iconic women of steel sculpture to pay tribute to the women who worked in Sheffield’s steelworkers during the two world wars. The outdoor activities festival runs from Friday through Sunday and includes climbing, bike riding and and a film festival. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to cyclist Hannak Johnson.

Countdown to Brook v. Rabchenko

Sheffield boxer Kell Brook is set to goes head to head against Sergey Rabchenko with an attempt to reignite his career in a bout for the WBC Silver title at the FlyDSA Arena. Brook lost his IBF welterweight title to american Errol Spence last year and said he fell out of love with the sport but is now seeking to make a comeback. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Kell Brook returns to the ring

Sheffield boxer Kell Brook will return to the ring to face Sergey Rabchenko in Sheffield on 3 March and is seeking to make a comeback after his defeat last year against Errol Pence. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

5k fun run planned at Rother Valley

An obstacle course fun run, featuring giant mazes, walls, gauntlets and slides, is set to come to the Rother Valley Country Park in September. The Gung-Ho 5k is open to both children and adults with participants encouraged to raise sponsorship funding for local and national charities. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Steel City derby ends in goalless draw

Jos Luhukay’s first match in charge of the Owls ended on a positive start with a goalless draw at Bramall Lane on Friday night. Sheffield Wednesday took a point from the match despite going down to ten men in the second half. Owls captain Glenn Loovens was sent off for a second bookable offence but the Blades, who won 4-2 at Hillsborough in September, could not make the breakthrough. After the game, both managers spoke to Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh.

Funding boost for Aden Steelers

A youth football club in Burngreave has been granted funding to help tackle extremism and keep young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour. The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire has awarded £4,500 to Aden Steelers Football Club from his Community Grants Scheme. The club encourages young people in north east Sheffield to take part in sports activities. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

TV wrestling deal announced at Sheffield Arena

5 Star Wrestling and FreeSports TV channel have announced a broadcast deal that will see the return of weekly free-to-view live wrestling on TV including from Sheffield’s Fly DSA Arena. The deal was announced at the Arena which will also host one of the first events in the series on 15 February. Love Island’s Adam Maxted and former WWE World Champion Jack Swagger are among celebrities and wrestling stars that have signed up. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!
