Sheffield United on the way up

Sheffield United are to return to the Championship after a six year absence following their 1-2 away victory at Northampton Town. The Blades needed a win to secure automatic promotion. Marc Richards put Northampton ahead, but Leon Clarke and John Fleck both scored to secure a win for the visitors. Gleadless Valley wins regeneration cash boost

Gleadless Valley is to receive a government grant of £510,000 to improve local amenities and housing stock on the 1950s estate. The regeneration plan for the area is to be developed in consultation with local residents, community groups and other partners. Simon Thake reports for Sheffield Live!

Jessica Ennis-Hill launches cancer charity appeal

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill has launched an appeal on behalf of the Weston Park Cancer Charity to raise half a million pounds for modern refurbishments to the Sheffield hospital. The campaign ‘Beyond the Treatment’ includes providing wifi for patients and comfortable armchairs for relatives to ensure a comfortable stay at the Weston Park Hospital. Kitchen Nightmares star in Ramsay reunion

Kitchen Nightmares star and restaurateur Justin Rowntree reunited with his former nemesis Gordon Ramsay this week on ITV’s The Nightly Show. Rowntree was the boss of Sheffield’s Runaway Girl restaurant and jazz club when Ramsay visited in 2011 to give it the full Kitchen Nightmares treatment. Whilst Rowntree clashed with the celebrity chef he ultimately took on board his advice, relaunched the restaurant as Silversmiths, won a host of awards and has never looked back. Sheffield charity says eating disorder cases on the rise

South Yorkshire Eating Disorder Association has seen an increase in its case load as more people with eating disorders seek support. People with eating disorders can only access NHS statutory treatment once their illness has become severe and at times life-threatening. Research has shown that the earlier a person receives treatment, the quicker they are likely to recover. The Sheffield-based charity is seeking to recruit additional volunteers to assist in providing help during the early stages of onset of eating disorder. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield specialists advise on healthcare in Ethiopia

Six specialists from Sheffield Health Action Resource for Ethiopia (SHARE) visited St Paul’s Hospital, Addis Ababa and Ayder Referral Hospital, Mekelle to help improve Ethiopian health services. SHARE is an international health link between Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Mekelle, Ethiopia, operating with charitable objectives. Loan shark suspect arrested in Shiregreen

A 44 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending and money laundering following a joint operation involving trading standards officials and South Yorkshire Police. The England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) working with Sheffield City Council’s Trading Standards Department and South Yorkshire Police executed a warrant at a property in Shiregreen, seizing documentation. Kell Brook set to defend welterweight title

Kell Brook is set to defend his IBF Welterweight world title against undefeated American boxer Errol Spence, with the fight set to take place in Sheffield at Bramall Lane on 27 May. Brook’s last fight was against middleweight Gennady Golovkin where he lost in the fifth round after moving up two divisions. Spence turned professional after losing in the quarter finals in the London Olympics 2012. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Tapton School to be northern hub for science charity IRIS

The Institute for Research in Schools (IRIS) has announced that Tapton School, Sheffield will become their new northern hub. IRIS is a charity which aims to inspire young people’s interest in science and to promote the development of science teachers. School students gain access to top level scientific data and the opportunity to collaborate in real time with scientists around the globe and to develop innovative experimental ideas. Tapton student Miles Soloman made headlines recently when he found an error in NASA data. The school will work with other Sheffield primary schools to help develop their science programmes and to provide opportunities for budding scientists. Simon Thake reports for Sheffield Live!
