New baths for North Sheffield

Sheffield North Active is going to be a new baths opening  in 2016.  The facility will offer a swimming pool and gym to people in the North of the City and encourage local people to have a more active life style.  The current Chapletown Baths will be closed down.

Sports club refurbished

Sheffield Wheelchair Sports Club has been able to refurbish its snooker and gym rooms after successfully raising £15,000.  The club enables people to play rugby, basketball, archery as well as pool and have a good work out in the gym.

Turning grey to green

A derelict piece of scrub land near Snig Hill in Sheffield has been shortlisted in a national scheme which could see it win up to £120,000 to transform it in to a wildlife haven.  Love Square would become a place were people could go and enjoy their lunch and aims to become a flagship space for wildlife development in an urban setting if it wins.

Free cuppa for a story

A pop up shop on The Moor is celebrating the people of Sheffield and their stories. You can walk in to the cafe and get a free cuppa in exchange for telling a story or two. The Bare Project is a local theatre company which has temporarily taken over the old Woolworths on The Moor.  They are collecting the stories and memories of people,  who go in to the cafe,  in exchange for a cuppa.  Some of the stories will be turned in to a performance by local playwrights while others will be put in to an archive.

City centre improvements

Businesses in Sheffield City centre who have a rateable value of over £30,000 could end up paying a levy that would go towards making improvements in the area.  The Sheffield Business Improvement District (BID) is a collaboration between the private and public sectors and could see up to four million pounds of investment going in to improving the City Centre over a five year period.

Story telling cloak

People are being given the chance to put images that they have created from their favourite books on to a story telling cloak. The cloak is worn by Genevieve who was created by Jean Compton a local community artisit.

New enterprise support

A new space has opened in Sheffield city centre aimed at encouraging people to work collaboratively. Union Street is offering hot desking space to enable people who are setting up their own businesses and normally work in isolation to work together.
