Sheffield students celebrate World Week

Sheffield students are celebrating cultural diversity and the city’s international connections in a week long series of events commencing with a parade to Barker’s Pool. World Week 2014 is organised by the University of Sheffield International Students’ Committee, One World and Global Campus.

Sheffield dancers in Dance Your City bid

Sheffield dance crew, Ink Dance, have produced a street dance video featuring iconic Sheffield landmarks in their bid to win the Dance Your City competition. They hope to perform in London with award winning hip hop dance company Boy Blue Entertainment. The competition winners are decided by a public online vote which closes at midnight on Saturday.

Jessica speaks out against Ched Evans return

Jessica Ennis-Hill has become the latest star to say that she will not lend her name to Sheffield United if they give Ched Evans a contract. The Blades have a stand named after the Olympic Gold medalist. Ched Evans was convicted of rape and has been training at the United Ground.

Ennis’ coach concern with Olympic Legacy Park

Tony Minichiello, coach to Jessica Ennis-Hills, has expressed dismay with athletics provision at the Olympic Legacy Park after the closure of the Don Valley Stadium, in an interview for Talking Sheffield on Sheffield Live! TV. Minichiello said: “I don’t think the investment is going into the athletics side.”

Paul Blomfield MP criticises United decision

Life long Blades fan Paul Blomfield, MP  for Central Sheffield, has spoken out against Sheffield United’s decision to allow Ched Evans to train with the team. He says that from private discussions he had had with the club that  he had hoped they would not be working with Evans.

Leader of Greens to stand for MP

Jillian Creasy the Leader of the Green Party in Sheffield is to challenge Paul Blomfield for his Central seat in the General Elections in 2015. Jillian has been a Green Councillor for 10 years for the central ward and hopes to become the first Green MP for Sheffield.
