Story telling cloak

People are being given the chance to put images that they have created from their favourite books on to a story telling cloak. The cloak is worn by Genevieve who was created by Jean Compton a local community artisit.

New enterprise support

A new space has opened in Sheffield city centre aimed at encouraging people to work collaboratively. Union Street is offering hot desking space to enable people who are setting up their own businesses and normally work in isolation to work together.

Threads influences new exhibition

Barry Hines’ Threads has heavily influenced the creation of a new piece of art which is being shown at The Site Gallery in Sheffield. In the Absence of a Smoky God, which was created by Matt Stokes, tells the story of survivors of the nuclear war.

First digital autopsy unit

Sheffield is the first place to have a dedicated forensic autopsy unit in the UK.  The flagship service enables postmortems to be carried out with the use of a mouse instead of a knife.  At the present time there is an additional cost attached to this service.

Golden Years Roadshow

Around 400 people attended an event aimed at the over 50’s in Sheffield this week. The Golden Years Roadshow had 30 stalls that people could visit for advice and information specifically aimed at them.

Hong Kong: Students speak out

A pro democracy student group is holding a peaceful protest in Hong Kong. We talked to two students, Cecilia and Kelvin, who are living and studying in Sheffield. We asked them how the situation is affecting them and their friends and families back in Hong Kong. The protests started when the Chinese Government announced that they were going to vet all candidates who were going to stand for election in Hong Kong.

Silicon Valley of Sports revealed

Plans for Sheffield’s Olympic Legacy Park have been unveiled.  Richard Caborn, former MP for Sheffield Central, revealed plans for Sheffield’s “Silicon Valley of Sports”.  The Olympic Legacy Park is going to be built on the Don Valley Stadium site and will cost around 50 million pounds to build. The park will provide permanent home grounds  for the Sheffield Sharks and The Sheffield Eagles.
