Nineteen witnesses sought in Hillsborough appeal

Detectives leading a criminal investigation into the Hillsborough disaster have released still images and CCTV footage of nineteen men they would like to speak to as potential witnesses. Officers working on the investigation, called Operation Resolve, believe the men may have vital information that could help the inquiry. They are seen in the images in the vicinity of Gate C outside the Leppings Lane end at 2.52pm just before kick-off on the day of the disaster. Ninety-six Liverpool fans were killed during the FA cup semi final match between Liverpool and Nottingham forest as a result of the crush at the Sheffield Wednesday football stadium in Hillsborough on 15 April, 1989.

The Battle of Orgreave took place during the 1984 miners’ strike. Campaigners have drawn parallels with the police handling of the Hillsborough disaster.

Labour’s deputy leader seeks secure future for steel

Tom Watson, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, speaking at the Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough by-election count, said: “In Sheffield the debate about the future of British steel has seized all of our attention. Jeremy took a leadership position on that. Hopefully it will mean we can secure the future of that industry. It’s early days in Jeremy’s leadership but I hope we are showing there’s a different way to do politics.”

Sheffield Live! TV moves to Freeview Channel 7

Freeview_logo_2015Sheffield Live! TV has moved from Channel 8 to Channel 7 on Freeview to take up the slot recently vacated by BBC 3. With BBC 3 moving to online only, Sheffield Live!, together with most other local TV channels in England, has been offered the improved Electronic Programme Guide listing. Many Sheffield Live! TV viewers will find their equipment picks up the change automatically. Where this does not happen Freeview recommend to retune TV receivers to update the on-screen programme guide. Viewers may also need to update their favourites list. Viewers who don’t retune will not lose their local TV channel. Sheffield Live! TV will remain accessible at the old channel number until the receiver equipment is retuned.
