Women’s pit camp memorabilia on display

Sheffield Women against Pit Closures are the subject of a new ‘protest lab’ exhibition at the Millenium Gallery. The exhibition includes memorabilia, banners and poetry from the 1984/85 miners strike but also for the first time from the women’s pit camp at Houghton Main in 1993 set up to campaign against pit closures. Top tribute acts headline fake-fest at Endcliffe Park

Imagine a music festival line up with headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis and Queen, all appearing under a giant marquee in Endcliffe Park. It’s Sheffield Fake Festival 2017. British international students compete in COBIS Games

Hundreds of British international students have been competing in Sheffield this weekend as part of the Council of British International Students (COBIS) Games. The COBIS Games bring together british students studying at international schools across the globe for a weekend of sporting competition including swimming at Ponds Forge and athletics at the Woodbourne Road athletics stadium. UTC Sheffield plan to recruit younger students

Sheffield’s first University Technical College (UTC) have launched a public consultation on proposals to admit younger students. Students can apply for admission to the UTC from year 10 but from September 2018 they could enter the UTC in year 9 if the plans are agreed. College campaign promotes voter registration

The Sheffield College are encouraging students and young people to register to vote in the General Election ahead of the deadline on Monday 22 May. The College have loaned a portable voting booth from Sheffield Council to raise student awareness of elections and voter registration. It is touring college campuses before the voting registration deadline following a launch at the Olive Grove campus off East Bank Road. Sheffield launches foster care awareness campaign

Sheffield Council is encouraging more families to help change young people’s lives as part of Foster Care Fortnight. Foster carers in Sheffield look after more than 265 children but fostering homes are still needed in the city. Sheffield Live reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Diane Hamid who has fostered thirteen children over the past five years.

Tales of life on the streets in Sheffield

Local author Craig Minto has written a collection of short stories inspired by tales of homelessness in Sheffield. Homeless Angels tells the stories of three Sheffield characters who find themselves going from riches to rags. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to the author Craig Minto.

Second phase of Sheffield run routes open to the public

Sheffield Council have signposted seven new locations for running in the city’s parks and green spaces as part of the second phase of their Run Routes initiative. Launched last year as part of the Outdoor City project, the run routes are funded by England Athletics and encourage more people to take exercise outdoors. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

IT experts warn on cyber attack risks

IT specialists are advising homes and businesses to review their cyber security following the malware attack that hit the NHS and other organisations at the weekend. The cyber attack, known as ransomware, left users locked out of their computers and requested a ransom payment to unlock encrypted data.
