First students arrive at new University Technical College

Sheffield’s new University Technical College (UTC) has opened on the Olympic Legacy Park and students have begun moving into after a two week induction. The £10m development is the second UTC in Sheffield. It will provide specialist study for 14 to 19-year-old students in technical skills for healthcare, sports sciences and computing, as well as offering traditional academic qualifications.

Freshers week welcome for new Hallam students

Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union have arranged a full week of events to welcome new students to the city. Sports fairs, society fairs and volunteering fairs are all designed to give freshers an insight into university life and provide opportunities to make friends and meet like minded people. Student animations on silver screen at Cineworld

A selection of locally-made stop-motion animation films films received prizes at a VIP Silver Screen event organised by local social enterprise, Flycheese Studio. The work created and produced by students at the studio, many of whom face life challenges, was selected to showcase students’ creative imagination in bringing animation to life. South Yorkshire Police join forces with universities to keep students safe

As thousands of students arrive in Sheffield, and get involved in freshers week activities, South Yorkshire Police have launched a campaign to keep them safe. They’ve joined forces with both universities to reduce violent crime after drinking too much alcohol.The campaign coincides with ‘freshers week’, and aims to make a safe start to the new academic year. They’re aiming to reduce violent crime, by asking students ‘What’s at the end of your drink.

Sheffield students celebrate World Week

Sheffield students are celebrating cultural diversity and the city’s international connections in a week long series of events commencing with a parade to Barker’s Pool. World Week 2014 is organised by the University of Sheffield International Students’ Committee, One World and Global Campus.

Sheffield welcomes new and returning students
