The Charity Cup, held at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium has raised £12,000 for St Luke’s Hospice and the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme. Two teams, kitted out in Wednesday’s home and away strips, were drawn from Owls supporters who pledged to each raise at least £500 for charity as well sports and other guest stars including musicians Jon McClure of Reverend and the Makers and Jon Windle of Little Man Tate. Jos Luhukay’s first match in charge of the Owls ended on a positive start with a goalless draw at Bramall Lane on Friday night. Sheffield Wednesday took a point from the match despite going down to ten men in the second half. Owls captain Glenn Loovens was sent off for a second bookable offence but the Blades, who won 4-2 at Hillsborough in September, could not make the breakthrough. After the game, both managers spoke to Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh.
Jos Luhukay has been officially unveiled as the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday with the challenge of returning the team to top flight football. The Dutchman, who has spent most of his managing career in the lower leagues in Germany, arrived at Hillsborough after Carlos Carvalhal left the club by mutual agreement on Christmas Eve. Owls chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, has asked the new manager to “finish the job” by getting the club back into the Premier league. The Owls boss is under pressure after loosing against city rivals Sheffield United at Hillsborough followed by a 0-1 defeat against Birmingham city on Tuesday night. Wednesday are currently fourteenth in the Championship and face another difficult task at the weekend against regional rivals Leeds United.

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal threatened to walkout of a press conference after facing contract related questions. The tense meeting with the press came after a comment the Owls boss made on Alan Biggs’ Talking Sheffield show on Sheffield Live! this week.
